Hello all,
Lastnight I bought an older 1972 Sea Sprite boat with a 75hp Merc on the back. I believe the merc is of the 1986 era.

It is my understanding the motor has sat for QUITE some time...

Well I started the motor up on the hose muffs, but much to my surprise I didn't see any water coming out of the powerhead area. Should there be a steady stream coming out somewhere?

I think its a good idea to replace this impeller regardless, but would like to know where to expect the water to come out.

ANy good do-it-your-self guides out here for that repair?

There should be a rubber nipple on the starboard side of the motor. Put your right thumb on the center line of the rear of the motor on the step above the stripes and stretch your hand around the midsection. The tip of your middle finger should just about touch the outlet. If the motor has been sitting for awhile you can run a piece of stiff monofilament in the fitting to clear any debris.

Impeller and/or water pump replacement is pretty easy with a manual. They are available here at iboats or locally at marine dealers and some auto parts stores.
