i curretly have a 9.8 hp on my 1444 jon, mv. 4 stroke engine, 84 lbs.if i were to up the hp i would have 120 to 134 lbs on my transom.the boat is rated for a 25 hp max. how would she handle with the extra weight? is it safe? the battery is as far forward as it can go. any info on how to do this? i am kind of leaning towards a 20 hp 4 stroke with pwr tilt elec start.tiller steer.

Re: weght issues

It'll work fine, but you gotta ask yourself if the expense and weight of the new, bigger outboard motor will be worth it for just a few more MPH? Seems like that 10HP should be pretty good for your rig, but if you have the need for speed, then go for the bigger motor! Good Luck!

i currently top out @ 10 mph with 2 men. ihave hit 19 mph alone in the boat. this is with my 9.8. would a 20 hp get my top speed up in the 18 mph range with 2 men? thanks
