NADA doesnt carry info from 1974 and back on outboard motors, but a 1974 115HP motor weighed 270...

Do what i did... Call glastron :) If they say its OK, go for it!

My 15' chris craft's max HP is 90 and i went with a 1980 90HP.. chris craft said go for it, and mine weighs at least 310.

i think i am more concerned about it being too much power. the weight doesnt seem to be an issue. the boat is rated for 1100 lb load, so 300ish pounds of motor weight shouldnt be a problem there. i just dont know if the extra 5HP is going to cause any problems... maybe i should just avoid running at full throttle :) wasnt there some point in time where they changed how the HP was actually rated?

I dont think 5hp over the limit is going to break the transom if its rated for 90HP... If you have a sound transom and a solid steering system, I say go for it...

The USCG has a formula for backyard boat building that you can figure out the max HP by multiplying the dimensions of the boat. You can do a google search or look on the us coast guards website for it.

Don't worry about the power alone. Remember the Merc 115 and 150 weighed *exactly* the same.

-W
