weird temp question...

had an overheating problem which slit an inch cut in either side of the exhaust tube a weak or so ago changed the impeller and everything was fine as far as the temp gauge goes, Ive ran several times since the impeller change and had no problems. Today it ran great for a few ours then it lost some bottom end power, opened the hatch and noticed that my duck tape over those two slits on the exaust hose was burnt through, checked the temp gauge and said 150.

diagnosis, im thinking that a piece of impeller is stuck somewhere but it dosent always heat up so my other thought is that the thermostat is is sticking sometimes.

My mechanic is putting in a thermostat kit and doing a reverse flush tomorrow for 10 bucks. what do you guys think...

went to swap thermostat and come to find out there wasnt one in it... My mechanic was stumped. If theres no thermostat why would the exhaust heat up, and its not clogged??? Put a thermostat in and did a short water test and seemed to be just fine. Why would this be?

No idea what engine you have, or anything else for that matter, but it's possible to flow too much water too fast. If that happens, there's not enough time to conduct the heat out into the water.

Duck Tape is not an exhaust bellows... Exhaust bellows are exhaust bellows. It stands to reason that your tape would not hold up. 150 degrees doesn't seem at all to be "over heating" to me...

Are both exhausts getting hot? How hot are they? have you measured them with an IR gun. Have you pulled the thermostat housing to see if anything is caught in there?

yes both sides were getting hot, and yes I pulled the thermostat and checked also put another one in because there wasnt one as stated in previous post. Checked all water lines for blockage. It was hot enough to slit both bellows
