Re: Well Pump Mystery

roboat, yes, your water line should be below the frost line. I don't know if you have what they call a pitless adaptor (which sticks out above the ground) or if you have a pit that your line runs into to the well.

You still should be able to fill the water line with water. Again if it doesn't hold the water, I would suspect your footvalve. A bud of mine said that it is possible that your screen on the footvalve could be clogged. This would also cause you pump to cavitate causing lack of pressure. That is if your line does hold the water in the line. Sounds like maybe you need a well/pump person to go out and check it.

I have dealt with wells for a long time. I agree with bondo on using the submersible pump. It is easier for the pump to push the water out vs pulling it out. I changed mine out several years ago and have no regrets about it. Makes it alot quieter in the house for when the pump does kick on. Good Luck......

Re: Well Pump Mystery

To sum it all up roboat, you have one of two problems. You either have a leak in the line from the pump to the house OR your pump is worn out and simply cannot deliver sufficient suction/compression. There are no other possibilities. If you were sucking air, the pressure guage would be jumping around like crazy. It would not take much wear, of a single drop line jet pump, to cause this. 60' is probably the upper limit for a single line jet pump.

Double line jet pumps are capable of developing more suction. They use an educer?? at the pump head which pumps water back down the well creating more suction in the process. This recirculation, however, could produce water quality issues.

As has been said, probe the depth and static water line in your well and get a submersible.

I got it working, thanks to all of you. It was sand and stones in the impeller and a lot of mud in the casing that that the impeller is in. This shows me that although it works now the well will nead to be dealt with next spring.

Thanks you very much for all the input.
