craig, don't mean to sound stupid, but that pic of your red boat on the ice....
1- is that ice tha bank?
2- howNthehell did ya get the motor started?

i only say that because i had a hellofatime getting my old chry70/70 to start last yr in Feb, when at a get together with old buds- it got down to freezing, and my boat was at the dock. it took me forever to get it to crank. in 4 yrs it never caused a problem til then. and it was all due to a cold snap. (that's what we call it)

you guys who run in freezing weather must have to really sweat the maintenance side of things...

i'm a battery expert ;) which means we can have old 1/2 charged, almost dry batteries down here, and never have a problem - in summer. but this was the first time putting my boat in the water in freezing weather. that was last yr, now i have a bigger motor, good starter, and dual batteries on it...(same ones as before, charged fully-as before)

Friggin weather!, gonna have to push the launch date back a couple of more weeks. I don't like being wet a cold trying to get the boat ready. Through the week its fair, come the weekend its cold and damp. YUK YUK YUK.. Tonight surpose to be in the lower 20's.

I feel bad for those farther north than me. They are getting a mixture of stuff that makes a person depressed. Especially if he is a boater!........Depressed SS :(

Hey Spinner,

What time is dinner? I hope we're talkin' "pan fried"
76 yesterday. 36 right now.
Too cold (for me) to boat OR fish BUT never too cold for fresh trout.

winds forcast up to 40mph today. with ice on trees,
heavy tree damage and widespread power outages are
possible.
just great!

Re: Well, Summers over

Mellowyellow, I think trees coated with ice with the wind blowing, you can hear branches and trees falling from the terrific weight from the ice. Really a scary sound especially when there isn't any other background noise going on. Just the sound of cracking ice on the tree limbs.

We had an ice storm several years ago that had built up to 1" thick. Saved me some bucks for topping out the trees on my lot. It was an experience I'll never forget. Newspaper had photos of people ice skating on the streets.

Hope you don't get one that bad. Hang in there, the season will soon be here. I just hope we have nice weather.....SS

Re: Well, Summers over

The cat thinks its fun?? The last time I tried to hook a cat up to a live bait rig he didn't like it. It is mighty hard too, with so many places for him to hide. Now I wait till we are out in the boat. I don the welding gloves, and can have him rigged up in about 5 minutes. I've learned a few things over the years. Buy them little pet lifejackets and attach a few snap swivels to them. Then you can attach the hooks AFTER you have the jacket on the cat. And the jacket helps with bait longevity. You can usually get by with only 2 or 3 cats a day.

OK. "No animals were harmed in the making of this lure."

Any subsequent injury or ***** to the cat was inflicted by another animal (northern pike), so that is ok, I think. :)
