Sirs I was wondering if any of you all could help me clear up an Alt problem ? Here is my story if you feel to accept this challenge. I have recently purchased an 1988 wellcraft aruba 23 foot cuddy. This model came with 5.7 liter power plant the boat was sold to me with and transplant from a scarb same year 7.4 liter i have never had the alt working i did purchase a new alt but did install until I can confirm wiring is correct (note the 10 pin quick disconnect was cut out and hard wired. i found most connection where bad and I had soldered all wires .so I suspect more bad connections) with that being said is there a source you could share where I can confirm wiring is correct ?This boat has dual batt and a switch, so not sure how this will charge both battery either HELP PLEASE. We ran the boat all season from a slip and shaking down the boat most issue are clear up. Most where mostly bad connections or in correct wiring now. I am down to the short list charging sys and trim tabs.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... Any chance ya got the serial number of the motor that's in the boat, to tell which alternator you've got,..??

Basically, the orange wire goes from the alternator to the starter post to charge the battery,.....
There'll also be a hot wire from the ignition to excite the alternator,.....
Gotta know which alternator though,....

So is the heave wire to go to the starter to feed back to the batt switch to charge selected battery . the other wire that hot is that to the voltage gauge to excite the regulator ? SO a low volt indication will have reg close and charge in theory ?

the serial number is on the side of the motor just above the starter. it will be on a tag that is riveted to the block

take your alternator off the motor and take it to a starter/alternator repair shop and have tested.

Dove down to locate SN by starter with no luck on finding tag around starter. Also checked with local parts store they have t tester but not the info to check marine alt I am still looking for info to the where abouts the other two wire go . I have traced the main wire to starter but looking to find where and how regulator sees low voltage to start charging process

I believe you have the same alternator I have, or at least very similar. The manual for troubleshooting is attached. I took mine to Advance Auto and they were able to test it.

This link has a picture of your regulator with the wiring labeled.
wiring connections for regulator

Good luck
