I have a 1970's ish 15' fiberglass Sea Sprite. Very clean but noticed today that the carpet near the stern, port side above the port bunk of the trailer is wet. Very wet. Roughly a foot square. The boat has been indoors the last 3 weeks. The bilge is dry. I cannot feel any soft spots on the floor. It's water but coming from where?

Puncture in the hull is possible, but there are likelier culprits... a bad thru-hull fitting, unsealed screw- or bolt-holes, leaking gasket around the keyhole (if an I/O), water intrusion from topside (possibly from a previous owner, if the boat is new to you), leaky garboard plug/fitting, to name a few possibilities.

If the boat is new to you, and the foam was wetted in the past, it could stay wet and wick out water out for quite some time.

Ruling out a puncture hole in the hull is probably the easiest to do.

I've had the boat for a couple years and it's always been dry. I noticed some water the last time I had it out but blew it off as maybe from the anchor retrieving or splashing. It is an outboard. I actually have it on Craigslist cheap but I can't sell it like this. The boat is not worth much to start with. Thanks for the input.
