Not sure if you remember me but I dropped my outboard 3 feet cracking both carbs, I've got different ones not same model number but "A" series and seems to idle fine, start fine, comp test: all 3 are within 5 pounds of 120, telltale takes about 7 seconds to start pumping, Wet no. 3 cylinder though. Always a clean plug although removing the #3 wire when running makes a difference as do all so it is firing and has good compression. I've just decarbed again today and while I was at it, I removed the exaust plate to check and sure enough the exaust port on top is black, the middle is half black and clean and the bottom is mostly clean. I'm hoping the exaust plate just wasn't cinced up enough 200 in. pounds I used and am wondering why this thing boggs. Did have a bunged feul line changed it and both floats bowls had crud in them though.
Any ideas other than the exaust plate causing the wetness? There is absolutely no evedince looking into exaust or under crank where carbs sit once removed of any cracking. Finally what is the idle timing of this 1975 65hp 650EL
I know the max advance is 23 degrees BTDC but the manual Seloc says is 3 to 5 is that right
Thanks for your time and will try to post one question or topic at a time from now on

Sounds like the bottom crankshaft seals. Not uncommon. In fact merc, and johnrude for that matter, recommend that 'seals and side plate gaskets' be replaced every 5-7 years. This is just part of the fun of owning a boat, the seemingly continuous maintenance. :D

Chris..........

Thanks achris, yeah I noticed a loose nut way down low and snugged it best I could with a wrench but it's one that I'd half to pull the powerhead to properly torque. I'm betting it's the lower crank bearing and seal eh? Can I run this thing like this if the decard worked and it doesn't bog anymore or should I really get on this?
EH? hmmm must be from Canada
Thanks :(
