speaking with a marine mechanic recently he told me if I drilled a 3/8 inch hole in the bottom back of my 85' sport that water would come pouring out. Is this possible and or advisable,am I possibly carrying way more weight than I think? Keep her in garage all the time. If this is advisable what product do you suggest to fill hole?

Pack with resin soaked fiberglass. Once dry coat with Spectrum Color Gel Coat Patch then sand. Keep gel coat close to the hole and sand 120,240,500, 1000 sand paper then polishing compound and wax. Spectrum sells a patch gel coat perfect for this situation.

Water does sometimes get between the hulls and the foam in Whalers.

If you suspect it, go ahead and drill the hole. If water comes out leave it a few days to completely drain, then repair as above.

I have done this to 2 Whalers with great success.

You will also want to identify the source of water intrusion. If that is not identified and corrected, the problem will simply return.

On my boats, I will drill a 1/4" hole for that purpose and reseal with a ss screw and 4200 so it can be done yearly. Obviously, if you only plan on doing it once, go the permanent way.
