I have a 1995 Mercury 90HP and when I purchased it, the previous owner told me to use 1qt to 6 gallons of fuel. That works out to be 25:1. Is there a recommended mix ratio for this motor? Would a 50:1 ratio be safe to use or not recommended? BTW, using Quicksilver synthetic blend.

I run 50:1 Quicksilver blend in my 50hp thunderbolt, runs well and fouls no plugs.

That motor would have come with oil injection. You need to see if that system is still installed and operating or not. It has likely been disconnected. The correct fuel ratio is 50::1, which is 1 pint of any TCW-III rated 2 cycle oil mixed with 6 US Gallons of regular unleaded gasoline.

Thanks for the replies guys. I thought 50:1 would be safe but wasn't sure. Previous owner had the oil injection system removed by a boat shop. It doesn't even have the tank for it any more. He said it seemed to run rich at idle because it smoked a lot but guess what, you are running it at 25:1. This will probably fix the random misfiring I have noticed on take off but after heated up, wouldn't do it any more. Plugs are probably getting slightly fouled. Thanks again!!! I can now have a better running engine AND save money by using less oil.
