Louisiana state laws ban municipalities from giving away broadband services.
No free Wi-Fi

However the law is temporarily allowed to be side stepped in the city of New Orleans since the infrastructure of the city has been demolished in the Katrina aftermath.

Is there such a law in your state?

Actually, there is no such thing as "free". Tax dollars would be used to pay for it.

And I agree with the law.

The government shouldnt give away something that a business can sell.

That is opposite of our capitalists economy, more like communist.

Ken

If any form of government isnt paying for it, fine by me.

Business may give it away if they want, they do that to attract customers. It is free to you, but not free to them.

My point is, the government shouldnt compete with businesses for services.

Ken

T.S. I agree with Ken. It is not the job of the government to compete with private businesses, and it's real easy to take someones comment and take it out of context to suit your needs. Someone has to be paying for the "free" service. There are towers as well as all the other electronics required to have Wi-Fi covering an area. Actually, the government started overstepping it's intended duties long ago, but that's a different story. Don
