Some from the 60's and 70's may be " chrysler " built.

good hist., high trim, and great pic. Thanks. It sounds like the Gale line was dumbed down for the price niche, so might not be quite as good as I thought. The larger Sea King I had was either a '56 or '57, and I had some Buccanner parts for that one. Motor was good, but I wish now that I at least had the boat I sold with the motor.

Some of the Sea Kings were indeed Chrysler built, as racerone says. I have a couple in parts up in the garage, and have sometimes used Sea King motors as parts motors for Chryslers. All 60s-70s stuff.

50s and 60s to 63 are Gale/OMC products And for all intents and purposes the same motors.
Keeping it very simple; The gale 3 is a single where the OMC is a twin, but later ones do share some ignition parts. The 5 shares some parts with the OMC 5.5 but has its own power head Some early 12s,15s 22 and 25 used a fuel pump when OMC was still using a pressure tank. Some earlier gales used a Tillotson carb while newer ones used the OMC carb.
There are so many Gale built motors out there that there still is a ample supply of Gale specific parts.
I just sent a box full of fuel system parts I had been hoarding to a guy the is refurbishing a Gale 12D10 that uses a Tillotson carb.
12D10 is the first year full gear shift 12 there is also a 12S10 that is direct drive.

another good history (steelespike's post). The Sea King (OMC/Gale) 35 I had was a '58, and had a fuel pump -- part of a "cruiser" option for the '57/'58 rudes. (I know it was a 35, so it must have been a '57 or '58.) I was thinking earlier it might have been a '56, but couldn't have been because OMCs didn't come out with 35s until '57, right? Grey. Sea King decal, still alum. cowling.

Yeah I believe Montgomery Ward used West Bend in '64 and '65 for its supply.

If it was a 35hp it was at least a '58 oldboat. The '56 and '57s were 25hp motors.

If you click on the picture of the 5hp in my post it is actually a video of it running after like 40 years. Put some new coils in her, cleaned the carb and she took off running. Looks like it fell from a 12 story building but still idles pretty good.
