If you stepped down on the rear passenger carpet, you hit the road since there was no metal left
Been there, feel yer pain. We always called those kinda cars "Flintstone Mobiles" ...?

Without a doubt, only had one and it made up for 3. 1982 two door Buick Skyhawk with a 1.8 liter screaming 88hp 4cyl. It would go 0-60 in the sub 30 day category. I think the body was made from pre-salted steel from the factory. The windshield leaked from day one and I took it back in for that so many times I just gave up, the body would flex so bad it would break the seal and rain would pour through. The carpets wreaked of mold. I finally drove it to the junk yard after the back of the drivers seat broke while I was driving down the street, next thing I knew I was staring at the ceiling. I thought I was going to have to pay them to take it. Never been so glad to get rid of a vehicle in my life.

1980 VW RABBIT-Bought it new. Everything failed on that POS eventually, and nothing was covered by warranty for some reason.

1971 Dodge B100 Shaggin Wagon, yeah, with the shag rug on the dash and ceiling. So rusty I could watch the road beneath my feet. Stuffed an old cushion in the big holes to keep some winter heat. Powerful slant 6 motor. 0-60 mph at the same rate as grass grows.

1976 AMC Pacer- Rear end would let go and start fishtailing on snow or wet roads. Hotter than Hades in summer. Similiar to driving a fishbowl.

TR250
Couldn't for the life of me keep body panels on the car. The darn car would always loose a panel or door when i hit a pole or tree. In the body shop 4 mths out of the year.Other then that it was a screamer with twin Stromberg carbs.

For high school graduation in 1980, I received my brothers left over 1972 Ford Maverick. Pea green color w/ black & white checkerboard interior and a 3 speed on the column manual shift. But by god, I had my 6x9 Jensen coax speakers, 8-track player and 5 spoke Crager rims on it. Didn't exactly drive the college girls crazy.

Re: What are the worst 3 vehicles you have ever owned.

i can't remember the year (maybe a '72) but one was a (i'm embarrassed to say) a plymouth cricket.
a couple of things i remember about it were. it would lock steering once in a while while turning left (like wouldn't come out of a left turn). man, that'd open yer eyes when it would happen. or once in a while it wouldn't shift into gear, it was a manual. got so mad at it one time i tried to ram (force) it into gear. all i did was to break the transmission housing and the gear shifter pulled straight up and off the car. it got bad fuel mileage too if i remember right... what a piece of junk... oh, i came with a pink fur dashboard too...

another was a '81 chevette w/an automatic. slower than the three year itch + handled terrible. i got it for a wedding present from the inlaws. used it to go on my honeymoon to MN. the batt. died in nowhere MN. left me stranded and had to walk 3 miles to the nearest town to get a replacement batt. got chewed out by the x the whole walk back to the car while carrying a batt. on my shoulder. man, was i bummed. should have known that marriage wouldn't last....

the third was a '91 ford E-250 cargo van. had a inline 6 300cid fuelie in it i think. slowest truck on the road. made lots of noise and was always hunting for the right gear to be in, then it'd shift down. the ibeam ft. suspension was a bummer too. i had to use a whole parking lot to turn around in. no turning radius. lastly, i got bad fuel in it. ruined the fuel system somehow. i replaced everything from the fuel pickup sock in the fuel tank all the way to the fuel injectors. all to no avail. it had a stumble in it that i could never get rid of after the bum fuel...

all were sold as is at a low price.

JKUST, I just think they changed what they put on the roads now. I have three cars over 8 years old right now and none of them have significant rust issues, even though they sit out..

.

Yes you really rarely see cars that rusted to the extent they used to but it seems like at least around here you don't see that many even 10 year old cars any longer. I don't know if it is the proliferation of leasing or what but I see way more nearly new vehicles than in those days it seems.

'01 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE 4x4 ordered new. Got hit 4 times in 4 years in that truck. 2 of those times were within 1 month. Darn thing was attracting other vehicles to it. First time was a flatbed rollback towtruck that was unoccupied and the driver forgot to set the parking brake. Ran into the front of the truck about 4 months old at the time. Next was a lady blaring christmas music - I could hear it from inside my vehicle). She saw me pull out, tossed her van into reverse and floored it to take my parking spot. Problem was, I was still in that parking spot so she re-dented the same spot that repaired in accident #1. Next, in a parking ramp I was backing out of my spot. Across the way, a lady in a blazer decided to also back out. I stopped when I saw her moving and blared my horn. Guess that big white pickup with chrome bumpers in her mirror wasn't visible as she creamed the cab and beside. A couple weeks after getting that fixed, a guy rear ended me at an intersection. I had to panic stop as an idiot did a panic stop 3 cars ahead of me. I was fine, the durango that hit me had to be towed from the accident. On the way to trading it in on the '04 GMC Sierra, I almost got hit 2 more times. I handed the dealer the keys and said its yours, I'll get killed in it if I drive it any more.

'04 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE Z71 4x4 purchased new and dumped at 130K. What a pile of crap this truck was. Had more repairs on this thing then I've ever had on vehicle.

*Cut through the driver's side PW/PL harness using the emergency brake??
*Hazard flasher went - left turn signal would cause the hazards to turn on?
*Blower resister went - lost middle fan speed?
*Right front, Left Rear, and pinion seals went?
*Transfer case Solenoid went
*Valve seals went
*Front bearings went at 100K
*Radio quit taking CD's
*Retainer clips on the emergency brake went
*Lost tow/haul mode - wiring in shifter broke

'86 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z. Yes it was listed in my best list but its also belongs here. None of my local Dodge dealers could do competent repairs on this car. We tried other, non-Dodge dealers who stated they could work on it but they had no clue. Only found (1) dealer in a different state that was competent enough to do some repairs. Broke the turbo arm on it, had it re-welded, broke it again. Started rusting through at the floor pans right behind the front tires. Hatch was also rusting on the lip.

'86 Dodge Daytona Turbo Z.

That Daytona was the fancier/cooler version of my Chrysler Laser on my list. I really wanted the Daytona Turbo back then of course the Chrysler Conquest TSI was the coolest car ever.

1999 Grand Am 2.4l 4 cyl. Had 186000 on it when I bought it in 2010. Never ran right, but it ran the year I owned it.
1987 Chevy Van - Purchased wrecked and RUSTED in 2002. It was so ugly my then girlfriend named it the Shi**er. However it did everything I ever asked it to.
1990 Chevy G20 Conversion van. Default, it wasn't a bad van at all, but it was the least nice of the rest of the cars I have ever owned, and it used Lots of gas. ANd had no working A/C.

So glad I never bought a Chrysler or a Chevette. I have never bought a new car, so for all used cars, my luck has been good, except for that Grand Am. And it was abused, you could tell.

Only one: 74 Ford Pinto. Slower then Molasses and a rust bucket. When you hit a puddle water shot through the floor and hit you in the face!

My Laser was the Turbo model ... would you believe that I was able to sell that car with 300k miles on it with the original turbo charger! One of my uncles had scored a spare one for me and had it in his shop just waiting for the day that never came. I musta' had a silver bullet 'cuz it was a great car.

HA! Another one: it didn't make my top three list, but my '73 Pinto was a decent car. It got good mileage and would do 120MPH (unmodified). It was a slug off the line, but other than that I enjoyed that car.

Wow that is amazing...old school turbo and 300k miles. I didn't admit it but while I had my 84 Chrysler laser my future wife already had one and it was so cool I wanted my own. Hers was silver and we got it from the original owner with like 50k miles on it and was in immaculate shape but the 5 speed stick 2.2liter (i think) had no get up and go compared to my automatic version. Again, though hers rusted out in like three years of ownership and it was always garaged. We ended up giving it away. The thing about those cars is they talked to you and monitored every system. Back then it was a novelty but was cool.

Yeah the Pinto was purty much a pos. But a '73 Pinto wagon is one of the finest, best handling winter vehicles you'll ever drive. Almost as good as a VW bug, but you could steer the Pinto ... Rear windows blacked out, pair of Realistic home stereo speakers in the back, Pioneer Supertuner w/Audiovox 40 watt amp, etc.

Met her demise T-boning a Plymouth Suburban wagon that ran a red light. I was doing 40-45 down a hill'n all of a sudden there he was, Kablam! Hit him square against the portside doors. Stopped me almost dead in my tracks but still manged to spin him about 120 deg. That one hurt, a lot. Shoved the radiator through the fan, hood accordioned up to where I couldn't see over it, but the car was still runnin' so I just pulled over to the nearest curb'n waited for the cops.

Guy was apparently unhurt but his car wasn't going anywhere. The mighty Pinto flattened both his rear tires. And shoved his fuel filler through the tank so it was leaking gas. In addition he couldn't open the driver side doors. But I digress.

Just don't be dissin' Pintos, 'specially the wagons ... Heh heh heh

Okay...

1964 Triumph TR-4. Spent a lot more time off the road than on. Engine heat would fry your feet in the summer, but you couldn't get any heat in the winter. I had a 45-minute drive to work back then, and I would just feel a wisp of warm air from the vents as I was pulling into the parking lot. Believe me, it ain't easy to drive a stick with a blanket wrapped around your body...

1964 Dodge Polara - the cancer ridden tank with bent coat hangers holding up the rear windows, and tin cans and clamps holding the exhaust pipe together. At least they were cheap to replace. Oil and gas consumption were roughly equal.

I can't decide on #3- there were too many cars from the 70's and 80's that were just crap on wheels, at least one of which (1978 Pontiac wagon) flew off on its own.
