had our policy in the mideast beeen driven by rationality and aid we would not be here today.

Give them aid? Haven't we been doing that? Where is Arafats wife living with their millions that we gave them, "supposedly" for the palistinian people? FRANCE!
Enough aid, enough talking!
You can not talk to these whakcos. They want us (the west) dead, giving "aid" only beefs up their arms.
If you want to send aid, send food and medical only, no cash.

If you really want to stop their aid, you better figure out how to stop buying their oil. Where do you think Iran gets the money to fund what they are doing in Iraq, and Hezbollah, etc?

If we really want to promote democracy in the region, we cannot do things like letting Lebanon struggle with a fledgling democracy and create a vacuum in the country that Hezbollah was more than happy to fill, funded by Iran with the proceeds of billions of dollars of our oil purchases.

I just want to clarify something. I never said we shouldn't learn from our enemies or anyone else for that matter. I just want their murderous ways noted while we are learning . . . My biotch is that simple: please don't make them out to be heroes when they are racist killers committed to destroying an entire nation.

not making anything Hezbolla a hero nor heroric.
they found a grassroots method that has worked for a couple centuries and exploited it while we were busy cozying up to dictators and murderers in the name of oil.
we still do.
in fact we almost turned control of our seaports over to a fairly repressive coalition of kingdoms.
however someone leaked it to the press and the american people stopped it,for now.

I actually supported that for the same reason that most have noted the success of Hezbollah tactics. I thought that was a good way to improve our reputation in that part of the world. Did I like everything about who we were dealing with? No. But at least they weren't overtly proclaiming that they want an entire nation destroyed.

BTW, "control" is not really correct. Security responsibility would not have changed.

Re: What Can We Learn From Hezbolla?

"Good" and "evil" are concepts invented by George Lucas in order to sell more movie tickets. Or by politicians in order to increase their influence. Or by churches in order to increase their influence. "They" are always evil, "we" are always good. Good always triumphs over evil because the winners write the history books. A political organization does not build a hospital because it is good, they do it because it will increase their influence. To say "Hezbolla knows how to rebuild a city" is not to say "Hezbolla is good"; it is to say "Hezbolla is good at building influence." Even the name, "Jihad Construction", is a marketing ploy. It's equivalent in the Bible Belt of the U.S. would be "Jesus Christ Construction." Or "Pope and Sons Construction" in Vatican City.

To all who said words to the effect of "you're saying we should emulate Hezbolla", I think you're smarter than that.
