According to the lists I have a 1984 150 GT Johnson STLCRD SN J5975935. I have not run this motor but it appeared to shift correctly.
I have the lower unit removed to do the pump and thought to check the shift rod height. The manual calls for 21 1/16 for an '84 and 22 1/16 for an '85. It is set to the '85 setting.
Is this another case of OMC switching mid year? I am about to put it back together and I don't want to wrestle with this twice. Getting too heavy for me these days.

IMO if it shifted correctly, and if you (or an 8 year old) didn't turn the shift rod while the lower unit was out I'd leave it alone. That's a setting that can't possibly change unless someone messes with it.

Yep, in agreement with metriccrescentwrench..... especially when there's a one inch difference.

I have to agree with you guys. It is reassembled and it shifts correctly. I will make a note in the file on this motor for future reference.
