Ahh what great ideas!! I love the one of trying to sell them something! My brother actually got a date once, hes talking and talking, has us all wondering whats up, then he says you know you sound kinda cute, your in georgia eh? were going to daytona in a week, maby I can swing by, have some coffee or something? haha, usually i just hang up, or sound real interested and have them tell me all about it, set the phone down. I hear that if you tell them to remove you and they call again, (with proof) thats like an instant winning lawsuit. (i think writing down the date and name is considered proof) I dunno... great ideas tho, good fun!<br />Craig

Sorry its not workin for you Norman.<br /><br />I used to hate all those calls, kind of miss them now.<br />Wisconsin has a no call list already. Some companies are still allowed to call you. Some local companies, and anyone that you have a relationship with, such as an insurance company, then all their partners and any company under the same corporate umbrella can call.<br /><br />When a long distance company calls, I tell them that they are tying up our Customer emergency line, and could they please call back on our regular business line, then I give them the 800 number of one of their competitors, att, mci, <br />sprint.<br /><br />I have also told them that I don't have a phone, they act weird with that one.<br /><br />I have gotten really gross with a few. Like saying "just a second, then yelling to the other room--kids, I told you to keep the dogs ***** out of you mouth." That will make the phone go dead in a hurry.<br /><br />Yous gotts to have alittle fun oune in a while.

If it's just some poor schlub doing a job, I just say I'm not interested and please remove me from the list. If it's some obnoxious high presure sales type, I tell them to let me check my statements and see how much I have to invest. Then lay phone down until they give up. I'm looking forward to the "no call list". They'll eventually figure a way around it, though.

Other than billyshears you people just don't know how to have fun. Of course you have to taylor your response to fit the situation.<br /><br />Things like:<br /><br />"Hey baby! huh, huh, huh, What are you wearing?"<br /><br />usually end the conversation. But if it doesn't, then your in trouble.

Those telemarketers really roast my keester! Especially the ones when you pick up the phone and you get a recording that says please hold the line  Usually I just say no thanks and hang up. On occasion I will yell nice and loud and holler oh my god I just spilled steaming hot coffee on my lap and wait for there response. Some times I play the religious thing and start asking if they have found the lord yet, almost always an instant hang up.

Why is she prejudiced agains telemarketers?<br /><br />
i reply that i am single and would love to take them out to dinner and a few beers and then to the closest motel 6 for a little fun.
Seems to me, if your wife just heard you saying that, you would be in hot water. I wonder what SHE says when a male telemarketer calls?

usually i just start trying to sell them something. but the best one i ever had was one from ameritech trying to get me to switch phone companys. I told the lady that in fact i was switching companys and going to all cell phones so that telemarketers would not be able to bother me. she says well that makes me feel real good. I said i am sorry but maybe you should get a real job! line was silent for about 5 seconds then she just hung up. Boy my ears were ringing after that, i supose she had few nice words about me to her colleagues.

My son started this tactic..and it caught on with me. "Nope, bye", followed by a quick hang up.

Re: What do you do when a phone solicitor calls?

Hey guys!<br />Here's some info for you......my wife works for a market research firm, and almost all of the numbers they call are called automatically by computer. If you receive a call and hang up, your number goes back into the "pool" of available numbers. If you insult/yell at/scream/etc. at the caller, your number goes back into the "pool". If you do not have your number correctly removed from their "pool" of numbers, at some point you will be called again. So how do you stop getting calls? A simple phrase is all it takes...."Please place my number on your opt-out list." At that point any sales pitch should end, the caller should ask you if you have any other numbers at your home (those will be placed on the list as well), and the call should end. By the way this works for both market research and sales calls. Now this is not the same thing as the national "Do not call list", it is only for that company, so you may still get calls from other companies. However, for those of you hoping that the national "Do not call list" is going to solve all of your unwanted call problems, you should be aware, that it specifically states that it DOES NOT apply to market research, simply because they are not selling anything. You can still ask to have your numbers placed on that companies opt-out list though. Also, before you opt-out of market research, let me tell you this....most surveys takes less than 3 minutes to complete and they help companies improve their products. You know, the stuff YOU buy at Wal-Mart, Home Depot, etc. Also, some of the surveys my wife's company does, PAY you for your time...not much some times...$2 to $3 or so...but some of them pay very well...over $300...depending on the survey. Anyways, just thought you might want to know.<br /><br />Bill
