What do you guys use to clean oil filters?

Hi, I have an 8hp evinrude 4 stroke and I'm going to clean the oil filter (its reusable type)
the shop manual says to clean with solvent. I was thinking I'd use brake cleaner and then blow out with
compressed air. Does this sound ok? haven't pulled it out yet but the picture looks like it has a rubber
o ring and don't want to damage it.

Brake solvent is very drying. How about cleaning in gasoline or kerosene?

I was hoping to use something that came in an aerosol can but the gasoline sounds like a good idea.
