What do you think about this boat and the price?

It appears to be the perfect boat for me at first glance. However, after some research, both the boat and the motor appear to be made by companies that filed bankrupsy and went out of business. I have not found any bad information on forester boats, but OMC stern drives appear to have over heating problems and expencive bills if you need repairs compared to volvo or merc.

Thoughts on price? Worth the 350 mile one way trip to check out? After a telophone call of course.

Thanks

Look I know your new here but don't start mutliple threads for the same question in different sections in this forum. It just gets confusing. You've already got some answers in your first thread and then 6 min later you start this one!

ok, will do. This one was supposed to primarly be about the price and the other one was supposed to be primarly about OMC.

I participate in a number of forums where there is a completely different crowd for each sub forum, so it would have made sense there.

I do not consider the price of that boat to be any great bargain. At least not for a '88 16 footer. Also, 16 feet with a sterndrive will be quite cramped since a lot of cockpit space will be used by the motorbox. In addition, the motor/drivetrain likely weighs 700+ pounds, and the drives are discontinued because they were lousy drives, when new.

I saw your other post and didn't want to get in the way of the OMC war, but I come from the area that this was posted and I think you do not need to focus on this one. There are plenty of boats that pop up on CL that would not have the OMC issue. I have seen several that I would have been interested in if I were in the market.

There have been a number of outboard driven boats that have been in this price range that looked to be real good deals. In this climate that may be a better deal than an I/O. Many of the I/Os you look at in this price range will probably need bellows work or gimble bearing which is not an insignificant job or cost.

Also, from experience, you will not sweat as much with an OB if it dips below freezing before you have it winterized as I have done when it is up at the lake and we get an early cool spell.

You challenge will be to get to the good deal before it is gone.

I just sold mine that is essentially the same but it was an 87 Searay. I sold it for $4000 to the first guy. It was a great boat. I loved it but I had to sell it to get a party barge.

I just bought a bellows & u joints for my Cobra. Anyone that says Cobra parts are hard to find doesn't know what they're talking about.

Seems a good deal if it runs good.

The OMC overheat issue is from people not changing the impeller. The Cobra drive is about the best drive to change one on.Takes all of 15 minutes..
I never have any problems finding any part i need..
