Not sure what vintage engine is in the pic but make sure you don't have a crankcase hose that has become detached from the crankcase fitting or the fitting that attaches a crankcase vent hose on the lower rear portion of the intake silencer cover.Otherwise a leaky upper inner exhaust housing gasket can produce similar deposits but will usually show some hot spots on the exterior paint.I'm guessing the former will be your issue.Could just be accumulated oil leaking from the intake silencer itself. If so ,with the engine cover removed ,you should see wet oil deposits in the lower engine pan under the carburetor/s area.

She be a 1977 85hp sorry I didn't include it on my first post the pan under the carbs is wet so you think it could be what looks like to me a recirculating hose from the silencer to the crankcase is leaking? I know the hose is on but there is no clamps on it maybe ill try some zip ties & see if this helps doesn't seem to effect the performance of the motor she's still strong just messy.

Re: what do you think?

OB has you going in the right direction. If the hose is connected between the crankcase and the airbox, check the airbox itself. It should have a gasket 319796 between the airbox halves. If it is missing, the oily/gas mixture will just flow down onto the lower cowl anyway. It does not affect performance, but is a messy think to deal with everyday...

Re: what do you think?

also, do you tilt you motor often, is so the carbs could be overflowing, or draining when tilted.

Took off silencer cover to check gasket found bottem part oil soaked maybe the bolts were loose checked drain hole it open not pluged plan on zip tieing hose ends to see if this helps. tsdaddy the only time the motor is tilted is when its on its way to the lake and back. thanks for your help guys. here some more pics maybe it will help.

OMG
There is supposed to be a gasket on the air silencer cover:eek:
That could explain why I always have a puddle under my carbs on the air deflector.
I have a question about this drain hose since it seems I always have some fuel on the silencer bottom and underneath. Where does this hose lead to? I thought it drained the excess fuel out of the cowling area. I always have wet/staining down the motor due to fuel leaking out. I thought this was normal from every time I tilted the motor. You mean it shouldn't be like this?

Re: what do you think?

It is not unusal for older engines to leak a little fuel/oil out of the carbs when tilted. The airbox is supposed to catch all this residual fuel/oil at the bottom and transfer it via that hose to the bottom cylinder. The bottom cylinder has a suction and will draw that unused oil/fuel mix in and burn it.

Re: what do you think?

and it is not uncommon to find air silencers without the gasket, none of mine have them.

Re: what do you think?

Seasprite, sorry to ask questions under your thread. I hope it's okay:)

So i am to understand that the ONLY reason for having fuel repeatedly collect in the silencer area is due to tilting the engine and that this is okay.

And then, since I don't have a gasket here, the fuel all just leaks out instead of going down the tube into the bottom cylinder. Other than a mess, is there any problem with this? Should the carbs leak back like this or does that mean the float is not set correctly?

Re: what do you think?

Randy if you click on the pic with all the wire & hoses you will see a small hose coming off the air silencer box & it runs to lower part of the intake manifold hope this helps.
