Well, just got the boat home with my new $400 beater truck...

Seems to me it's a bit high with the step bumper, maybe I'll put one of those receiver mounts underneath

But it towed home fine, no sway.

The truck is an 89 F-150, 2WD, 4.9L inline six and a 5 speed stick.

wow thats awesome! i want a $400 truck too...that straight six should run a good long time also. tongue does seem a bit high, i always have put receiver hitches on no matter what. easier to tow n stuff, i have never towed with a bumper mount though.

I use my Ford Ranger to pull most of the time, but I have towed with my Ford Crown Vic and if I need too, my Dodge B3500, but that thing really guzzles down the gas.

A receiver mount would be prudent, as a bumper mount is just plain dangerous.

I pull my 15' tinny with a '99 Durango SLT 5.9L V8 Mangum with a factory tow package.

We just got the truck about a month ago. Last season I towed the same boat with my 2000 Honda Civic EX.

No problems with either.

I tow our 190 BR with a Dodge 3500 Dually 4X4 Diesel. Kinda of overkill but I used to have a slide in camper also and have yet to get rid of this monster.
It has a SuperHitch on it, It has a double mount so I can use either for my hitch. Upper/lower. It also has a 4' extension if I ever chose to get another slide in camper with a overhang.

My 2500 is way overkill too, for only towing a 21' boat, or even my rock crawler on my car hauler trailer. I'm at 550-ish to the rear wheels and 1000+ ft/lbs. I've used it at a few truck pulls, tow often, and daily drive it. Despite it's rust issues, it's a great damn truck, and one of the longest owned vehicles I've had.

I prefer a receiver hitch myself, the step bumper is factory Ford rated for 300lb tongue weight and 2200lb tow weight. Boat and trailer weigh in at 1800lbs. If I go with a receiver I'll be making one up at the shop, this will be about the 50th hitch I've built.

the truck is tall witch makes the rear bumper on the camper to low to tow with and the camp site i frequent is only 6 miles from my house

We tow the Sea Ray Sundeck 200 with a '08 Ford F150 SuperCrew 5.4 with the factory tow package and 3.73 gears. No problem with it but on the hills, even the F150 knows there is a heavy boat back there.....

We tow our 1978 Glastron V162 Futura with either my '01 Saab 9-5 or my wife's '03 Mazda Tribute V6. The Mazda is much better for long trips, but it's a gas hog. The Saab does ok, but I can always feel the drag of the boat behind the car.


In my single days, I had a '99 Chrysler Sebring convertible and towed the Glastron with that. It turned heads for sure. The only thing better than heading out to the lake with your boat on a sunny day is heading out to the lake on a sunny day with the top down!!

I tow my 2000 Javelin Venom 17 F/S and 115 Johnson with a '97 Ford Explorer 4.0L 4WD. I don't even know it's back there most of the time. I used to pull a '76 Chapparal 15ft and 85hp Merc with an '86 Olds Cutlass Cierra 2.5L. Got some strange looks back then 'til I got my truck fixed.

I bought a 07 Campion 645 (about 23') last fall and had to get a neighbors Tahoe to pull it home. That was interesting! first time with a trailer that large on 95 thur Baltimore tunnels. Now I just picked up a 08 Aspen HEMI and I am chomping at the bit to get the boat out of storage and pull it somewhere.

It's nice to see another trailblazer in the group.

I tow my 75 Sea Ray SRV190 with a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer 4x4 works great for the time being but I am planning on adding a trans cooler soon.
