Will be pulling my boat out of it's slip for the first time for a trip to Lake George, NY. Want to clean the hull off before I get up there. What are you guys using to clean the hull off with? Can I just use a wet sponge to clean below the waterline and get all that stuff off with water? I notice when I am swimming in the water I can use my hand and rub off the boat and it comes off.

Thanks for the advice.

I use Attwoods Hull Cleaner available at Wally world...works great... Spray it on with a garden sprayer or hand spray bottle and rinse it off...no effort at all. I use it full strength but somebody else on here said they cut it with water quite a bit and it still works really well...Going to try that next time.

Neverseen that I am not sure I have a wally world in my area. But I do a search to see if anybody else sells that.

Power wash it then go to the local grocery store and buy toilet bowl cleaner (The Works) brand, spray it on then wipe off, rinse really good.

Also StarBrite hull cleaner. It's an acid, so if you spray it, make sure that you're up wind. You don't want it in your eyes. Works great on tough stains.

Power Wash? That seems alittle harsh to me. :)

I guess it depends on how long it was in the water and how much growth is on the hull. I just pulled mine out of the water after 5 weeks in a slip and I power washed it and it came off real good using the power washer. It takes the growth off but not the hard scale, the toilet bowl cleaner takes the scale off real easy but it is an acid so you have to rinse it real good.

I guess it depends on how bad the hull is. I left my boat in a dirty lake overnight. When I trailered it home the hull was yellow. I used SeaSense Hull cleaner and a little elbow grease to remove all the yellow. Then of course I washed and waxed with Collonites.

Which Starbrite cleaner?

This one says avoid Galvanized metal which is what my boat is trailered on. So that seems no good.

This one? It doesn't contain any acid.

I have never had a problem with a galvanized trailer, but I think they mean that you're not supposed to clean the trailer with it. Once I spray the hull down (I do it in sections), a little splash on the trailer from the hose is all it takes to dilute it. It's mostly overspray and direct contact.

Thanks Fireman431. I am going to try the Attwood stuff first as I can get that Easily at Walmart first. Closest WestMarine is 50 minutes away from me.

Thanks to all for their advice. I went with Attwood hull cleaner as Walmart is 5 minutes down the road. Took the boat out yesterday and the hull was brownish from the waterline down. Bought a spray bottle also and sprayed it on and it instantly started to take that brownish stuff off.

Question is can I use it on the stern drive also? I was going to but then thought I better ask first incase it starts to eat up stuff that it isn't suppose to on the stern drive.
