QR codes can be created to reference any online URL by going here, and then a smartphone like a Blackberry, Android, iPhone, etc, can take a picture of it and process it to give you the URL.

F'rinstance, this one (attached) is for iBoats forums. You could snap a pic, and then your smartphone would automagically go to that webpage without having to type it in.

Kind of a solution in search of a problem.

I mentioned this earlier, but I get boarding passes on my PDA now that look like that . . . The TSA has a scanner and so does the gate. Works OK, a little better and I will depend on it, but I am still printing a paper boarding pass that I keep in my back pocket.

that is really slick, the downside is I have to set my phone picture size to small for it to works. Set the size back to large to take regular pic.

They are great if you are browing on your desktop for some apps for your PDA phone, then you just scan the code and it'll install on your phone. Works a treat. I think there needs to be a standard created requiring the actual url to be presented underneath it, though. I'm always fearful scanning the codes, even from trusted sites.
