What Drive do I have

Hey I am gathering parts for my overhaul of the engine and I have noted that the outdrive needs some work too. This is a 1990 Sea Ray with a 4.3. What are the things I need to look for on this drive to tell me if it is R MR Alpha GenI etc.... There are no serial #'s left on the stickers!!! Help! Oh yea, it does not have the lifting ring on top of the vertical access shaft cover if that helps.

if it has the lifting ring, I believe it is a pre-alpha which they stopped making in 82 i think...

So then are MR and the gen 1 Alpha One the same as far as parts are concerned? I don't need to know specifically if it is and Alpha or MR or is there no difference?

One other thing, do I use the short shaft 8" or the long shaft 9" with this. I am speaking of the engine drive shaft. 4.3L Merc
