I guess Blk-n-Blu gets a kick back for every time he sends people to Mercstuff. Bad thing is, a lot of their info is wrong and misleading and we have better information here.

As far as your drive, you have what is called a MC-1 Drive (aka One Drive) yes, it came out prior to an Alpha, but so did the R and MR, and EZ, and it's not any of them. So "Pre Alpha" doesn't really work either. Besides, there is no such thing as a Mercruiser Pre Alpha. Everything, including TR's were pre Alpha. The name "Alpha" came about until 86.

Have a look at the first 2 links in this thread found in the adults only sticky.

I think that mercstuff site is sloppy and un-orginized.

would i use the "Mercruiser engine/drive year model reference chart" found in that link in order to determine which lower drive units will interchange with my outdrive...think any that say MC-1 would work right???

Thanks for the replies!

Any MC-1 drive, R, MR, or Alpha I will bolt right up. The Gen II drives (91 and newer) will not. Make sure you get the right gear ratio, that is the most important part.
