Makes you wonder. A year and a half ago I replaced a 30 year old Kenmore washer because the transmission was making really alarming noises. Bought another Kenmore (made by Frigidaire) but have no illusions about its potential lifespan.<br /><br />Currently using a 27 year old Kenmore dryer that seems to be working fine, but who knows. Neither washer or dryer have ever been serviced.<br /><br />My parents got a Crosley shelvador fridge in about 1950 that my mother won by writing a poem. They used it until about 1968 when they decide to get a bigger one, GE, I think. The GE was still working good in 1998 when my dad sold the house. My brother-in-law used the Crosley as a beer fridge for 20 years or so and then I think he gave it to someone.

In reality a lot of the problems Microsoft gets blamed for have nothing to do with the OS. Most problems are really due to third part software that is poorly written and cheap hardware (especially memory) and then finally poorly written device drivers. <br /><br />You put a clean copy of any Microsoft OS on good quality hardware and see how often it crashes.<br /><br />There aren't too many other products in the world that have to work with an almost limitless combination of environments

Hey Spinnerbait, didn't they refer to that engine as the "Clatterpiller"? <br /><br />I'm not currently working, my ex-boss and owner of the company retired and it was just a matter of time before I was out the door too. I was the purchasing agent for the company and I purchased all the parts for repairs to the heavy equipment, dump trucks, crew trucks, company trucks and all the paving equipment too. <br /><br />As you've probably already figured out, I'm not shy, or afraid to ask questions. One person can't possibly be an expert on all the different manufacturers... lots of old stuff and new stuff too. I was lucky if I had a parts book and relied on my camera and good mechanics and reps that I dealt with. I really enjoyed my job. I'm really a frugal (read that CHEAP) person and saved the company lots of money over the years I was there..... and also spent millions of dollars of their money on parts and pieces to maintain their equipment. That was fun! In all honesty though, I just like to save money and I don't care if it's my own money that I save! It makes me feel good. Like I've accomplished something!<br /><br />If any of you know someone with Cat or Komatsu equipment or just a cat engine.... there is a company that I dealt with in Knoxville, Tenn, that can beat OEM prices hands down with their after-market stuff. And they have a LOT of it. Everything from injectors to track pads to equalizer bars and it is top quality after-market. We never had any problems with anything I ordered from them. Great on-line ordering as long as you have the part number. They need to put me on their payroll ... I send them so much business The company name is REGAL. I think I remember their number right... 1- 800 824-2164 They have warehouses in several parts of the U.S., so shipping is cheaper that way too. It ships from the closest warehouse and you pick it when you order.<br /><br />I didn't mean to go on so long, but I hope to be able to somehow contribute to this forum with information that may help someone else. You've been a great help to me and I also appreciate the 'company'

thanks all,<br />the fridge still works fine but it is falling<br />apart inside... the bottom crisper drawer has 2<br />plastic posts holding it up, 1 broke off. the<br />door shelfs have 2 plastic holders that snap in<br />and hold a metal stop in the front, 2 are broke<br />and taped...the light in the icemaker is shorted<br />out... the door handle on the oven broke in half<br />and has duct tape, the oven computer control is<br />a little haywire, but still works. <br />and I din't buy based on lowest price! even paid<br />a bit more to support a local dealer.<br />just surprised they are made sooooo cheaply.

Ya I dont buy into the top quality thing. I dont<br />think they are all designed to last. They are<br />purposely designed to last for a specific number<br />of years.We could make appliances last for decades<br />30 to 40 years ago. Now we are lucky to get 5 to <br />10 years out of them. And as for autos there are<br />lots of carbureted junkers around these parts from<br />the 70's and 80's still going strong. We will see<br />what happens to auto's built in 2000 in another<br />20 t0 30 years. Even the mechanics cant diagnose<br />engine problems from home. Got to have a special<br />computer program to help diagnose, or they would<br />just be left on the side of the road.

MY, <br />Same problem here! Built a new house, all new Kitchen Aid (same as Whirlpool), the repair guy was out 6 times in the first 9 months all for different problems, thankfully all under warranty. None the less 6 time is unacceptable.
