What fluid goes in tilt/trim???

Hi peoples,<br /><br />I am just fiddling with my replacement tilt/trim before installing it, and I am wondering what goes in it.??<br /><br />I just just filled it with Auto tranny/powersteering fluid and I figured I'd better ask if thats what is supposed to go in it..???<br /><br />I have seen posts about this before, but you can never find one when you need it can you? <br /><br /><br />rgds<br /><br />frank

Don't know if yours is the same as mine, but I just purchased a new one and the paper work called out to be filled with sae 30 weight motor oil. Should be in your paper work. Good Luck!

its true some take regular 30w oil but some also take fluid meant for just them best bet is to go to your closest boat yard and ask most yards will be happy to tell u what it takes

Thats interesting.. unfortunatly, I have no "paperwork" with my motor. I have two motors, no user manuals and no service motors..<br /><br />now I am wondering if I shouldn't have put tranny fluid in there..<br /><br />rgds<br /><br />Frank

In my line of work we often use d.c. powered hyd. pumps (Monarch hydraulics) and they all call out for automatic trans. fluid.It should be o.k. If I had not read it I would now have atf in my unit as well.It has very good lubricating capabilities.I think I would leave it in there.Just a thought

Yeah, if I can't find out the answer here, I guess I'll be looking for alternative sources of infomation.. <br /><br />but I figured with so many knowledgeable people on this list, someone would know what late 60's early 70's OMC OB's took for their tilt/trim.. so if anyone knows,, I'd dearly love to hear it.. <br /><br />rgds<br /><br />Frank

My OMC manual states "OMC-TILT/TRIM,PWR STEER Fluid". My Merc used sae 30.
