still narrowing down my new boat purchase.1648 mv aluminum. available in .80 and .100 gage.i see a lot of mfgs selling .80 gage v hulls some as thin as .70. weght is an issue on my purchase. lighter would be better for towing and running. is there that much of a difference? is it worth the extra cash? freshwater use only. mainly GA lakes with an occaisonal rive rt trip. any opinions \? thanks

As Bob said the difference in weight is almost insignificant but the strength gain is pretty decent, at work I have .080-.090 and.100 and you can really tell a difference between them.

the 80 is really floppy, the 90 is stiffer and the 100 is really stiff, if I were getting a boat, expecially welded, it would be 100 no question.

Ditto on the 100, on the bottom anyway. Running over stumps and things can deform alum and the thicker the better it resists. Where glass hulls may be stiff enough to deflect the boat from the strike, metal boats are different.

You'll get better welds and a stronger boat with 0.10
