Creative Grafix was a new member who made a mistake in his post. I posted a reply along with a few others to help him ....... ZAP the entire thread has been removed from the face of the earth.

I feel that many of us are trying to promote iboats and build the community up........ along with promoting the site maintaining membership is also key.

I seriously think that this Zapping of posts frustrates the new members and all the other members who tried to assist in a friendly manner.

Possibly some minor editing would have cleared the error and maybe even lock the post with a small explanation......

I feel that one I saw this error I should have written his obituary becasue it was going to be zapped from the memory.

Re: What happened to Creative Grafix

We prefer to frustrate those who want to use the forum to promote their businesses or sell their goods or services. It is called SPAM, and it is not allowed.

Mistake? Several: 1. Didn't read the rules. 2. Offered to sell services. 3. Posted Email address. 4. Did it all in his first post.

I am surprised that you thought all that was not only okay, but helpful, Bob.

Any vendor can contact iboats management and arrange to advertise here or in the Review, as several have, but not in the fora.

Oh, and one more thing. Have you ever seen this before??

If you have comments, questions, suggestions or complaints about the moderation or management of the Board use the "contact us" icon. Do not post it.

My assitance was to encourage that member to contact iboats and not through the forum to become a vendor. I wished him good luck with his business. I did warn him of the violation.

Considering his new status and welcoming him to iboats...... I never asked if he read the directions...... many of us do not read directions as a habit.

Yes I have seen that "one more thing" and I even took a few minutes and searched for it in the rules and policies...... I could not find it.

Go ahead and lock up this thread. It appears that there is no win or lose nor is there an intent.

Maybe just an edit of the post would have sufficed, instead of zapping it all together. That would seem to help keep things in check with iboats rules, but keep the thread alive. Of course that might make to much sense.

So is it 1,2, or 3 strikes your out..............or is it up to the Mod??..............I guess I'm asking if there is a formal procedure relating to this type of infraction or is it left to the Mods desgression(SP)??

Re: What happened to Creative Grafix

It was not SPAM by definition..... a C&P

What is spam?
Spam is flooding the Internet with many copies of the same message, in an attempt to force the message on people who would not otherwise choose to receive it. Most spam is commercial advertising, often for dubious products, get-rich-quick schemes, or quasi-legal services. Spam costs the sender very little to send -- most of the costs are paid for by the recipient or the carriers rather than by the sender.

There are two main types of spam, and they have different effects on Internet users. Cancellable Usenet spam is a single message sent to 20 or more Usenet newsgroups. (Through long experience, Usenet users have found that any message posted to so many newsgroups is often not relevant to most or all of them.) Usenet spam is aimed at "lurkers", people who read newsgroups but rarely or never post and give their address away. Usenet spam robs users of the utility of the newsgroups by overwhelming them with a barrage of advertising or other irrelevant posts. Furthermore, Usenet spam subverts the ability of system administrators and owners to manage the topics they accept on their systems.

Email spam targets individual users with direct mail messages. Email spam lists are often created by scanning Usenet postings, stealing Internet mailing lists, or searching the Web for addresses. Email spams typically cost users money out-of-pocket to receive. Many people - anyone with measured phone service - read or receive their mail while the meter is running, so to speak. Spam costs them additional money. On top of that, it costs money for ISPs and online services to transmit spam, and these costs are transmitted directly to subscribers.

One particularly nasty variant of email spam is sending spam to mailing lists (public or private email discussion forums.) Because many mailing lists limit activity to their subscribers, spammers will use automated tools to subscribe to as many mailing lists as possible, so that they can grab the lists of addresses, or use the mailing list as a direct target for their attacks.

Shame on you.
