What is a 1975 Johnson 70 HP outboard worth?

I am just curious if it is worth upgrading my outboard, or sell the whole thing and buy something else. can anyone tell me what a 1975 Johnson 70 HP outboard is worth? I would like to upgrade it to a 50 HP Honda 4-stroke. I would also like to upgrade my boat at some time to a Aluminum Harbercraft all welded design.

Then I think I would be happy....even though I am on my second boat so far.

You will probably find that the responses you receive from our southern friends will be different then what the market in Saskatchewan will hold. I keep seeing guys here on iboats picking up boats, motors and trailers for a few hundred dollars. Good running motors for cheap. Trailers for cheap. Compare that to anything you see on usedregina, usedsaskatoon, kijiji for our area, or even the boat places. It seems like the 'value' of things here is 3 times what it is down south right now. As for an actual number, I couldn't tell you other then if you get responses of $500... multiply that by 3 and see what happens. It's ridiculous here for marine stuff.

i agree on region, here it would go around $600 at the most. the 73-76 has a drawback here, because of the hydro-mechanical shift.

4 stroke motors are heavy dogs, won't accelerate. There's no way you can call a change from a loop charged 3 cyl. OMC to a Honda 50 an 'upgrade'! Rebuild the 70, it costs less and is a lot more powerful. I'd charge about $500 plus parts and reboring (if necessary) to rebuild a powerhead, were I in Houston (I'm not, until Aug.).
