Engine builds use them. They get glued on a freeze plug with a special adhesive that when it gets to a certain temp it falls off. That way you can tell if it has been overheated or not.
Some may also change color.
Thats the basics of it.

Oh, I see. Thanks.

The desc says 255 degrees so I guess that would mean if they fall off or change color the engines screwed. but I guess youd know that anyways.

Its more for the engine builder to say "Look you overheated it and now there is no warranty". Then yes, your screwed.

Post padding at it's best. which comment were you referring to? Almost as good as the "Don't have a clue" reply to a previous post.

To the OP, 255? in itself will not destroy an engine. But it will void a warranty from the engine manufacturer/rebuilder that uses them.
