Okay we have the SELOC manual and need to test the coils. 1974 Johnson 140hp. The manual refers to a neon test light with 3 positions and a load button.
We want to get one of these but where and what is the name?
Thanks

Its a S80 neon tester and I think they haven't been made in years...and you cannot use it on your year model. It is only for engines with sensor/points and amplifiers, a 1975 140? is a pack engine.

The S80 neon tester is long gone. You need a peak reading volt meter or else a multimeter with a DVA adapter. I sure love those Seloc manuals. LOL

The OEM manuals will tell you the same thing, S-80 (Stevens) or M-80 (Merc-Tronic). That's because they were pinted "back then". Technology marches on---get a DVA meter.

Well Seloc must be a bunch of cheap ..... figures I buy a repair manual that is so out dated but still brand new.

Get the model # of the mtr and post it on here. It should be on the port stern bracket.

Even the OEM manual that you should have was printed with tools/technology available at that time. Some may no longer be available.
