Many years ago I was pulling a trailer with three dirt bikes back from a weekend of riding in the mountains. Late afternoon, and I noticed my buddy driving behind me in his truck was flashing his headlights. After......closer attention.......I noticed smoke coming from one side of the trailer......stopped...... to find the bearing had locked up and the tire was still on but had one hell of a flat spot...
We unloaded the bikes and put them in the back of the truck.....pushed the trailer into the weeds beside the road and came back later to get it. The bearing race had welded itself to the spindle.
That's the day I learned to check wheel bearings occasionally...
