Some sort of gasket maker? My manual says to use perfect seal "or equivalent" in a number of applications. I can't know what an "equivalent" is if I don't even know what Perfect Seal is LOL!!

Also, the manual says to use Perfect Seal #4 on the prop shaft splines, but doesn't specify a specific Perfect Seal "number" for any other application - how many types are there?

Thanks a bunch guys.

Re: What is Perfect Seal?

Perfect seal is a sealer, not a gasket maker.
Very similar to the Permatex 3D sealant link below.

Permatex 3D

NAPA and most automotive parts stores carry it.
For the OEM Perfect seal, Check with your local Merc dealer for a can.

I don't have a clue what "Your Manual" acutally is, but you use grease on the prop shaft, not some sealer, and I have never heard it called Perfect Seal #4, so good luck.

Thanks Don S. The manual I have is a Seloc. Thanks for the link to the factory manual in the other thread. It's saved as a favorite and I'll be reading up this week.

Re: What is Perfect Seal?

Perfect Seal #4 is available at Mercury dealerships or at Evinrude-Johnson dealerships under the name BRP gasket sealer.

For prop splines, especially in salt water, you are better off using Merc's, Evinruded's, or a quality marine grease twice a year. The gasket sealer gets "crumbly" in salt water and does not protect as well as a good marine grease.

Evinrude's Triple Guard or Merc's 2,4C or 101 are the best to use.
