what is the best service manual??? mid 70's 150hp inline 6

any opinions on the right manual to buy will be greatly appreciated. No-one seems to work on these older mercs, not even the dealer closest to me!

You'll get a very devided opinion on that, because each has it strong and weak points.<br />My advice is to go the the library nearest you, and check them out in the reference isle.Then pick the one that best fits your task.

Seloc, yes.<br />Clymer, nay.<br />Lots of manuals on ebay...usually less than $20. You may need a new primer bulb or fuel pump (inexpensive kits, www.boatingsolutions.com)<br />Get/borrow a compression gauge ($10 at harbor freight) and do a comp test...it'll make you feel better knowing its okay. Comp on each cylinder should be within 10-15 percent of each other. If its been sitting a while, I would bet its your fuel pump diaphragm...a piece of rubber that wears out.

Mercury manual is best. It is specific for your motor.<br /><br />around $38 at your local merc dealer.

I have Clymer, Seloc and OEM Shop Manuals.<br /><br />Factory manual is always best, EXCEPT it will call for special tools and fixtures ($$).<br /><br />I prefer the Clymer for OMCs. Print, paper and production are superior to my Seloc, which does use more pictures and diagrams.<br /><br />Don't have any Merc Manuals, but would expect any of the three to get the job done.

i have the clymer and seloc... the clymer looks like the sunday funny papers compared to the seloc...<br /><br />jmo though...i'm frequently wrong
