what is the pump?

Hi sll. I just aquired a 97 rinker 212 has the 190 v6 ecerything seems very clean and well maintained. My question is the hydraulic pump in the rear starboard side. Is that for the trim and or power steering? What fluid goes in it and is it something that gets used up and needs topped off? Thanks for any help

That indeed would be the trim pump; the power steering pump should be on a bracket bolted to the engine driven by a fan/serpentine belt.
There are various lubes you CAN use but here's the Merc. serv. manual (alpha 1 gen 2 is what would be the common drive for that engine) that you can read what Merc recommends:
