What is the red knob

I recently rebuilt the carb on my 25 hp 1989 Johnson and I have a few questions that I was hoping someone could answer.<br />1. What is this red knob and what does it do, which way should it be turned? Any help pn this would be great. <br />2. About how many turns out should the low speed idle adjust ment be?<br /><br />Thanks for Any help you can provide. <br /><br /> Website showing more pictures of red knob <br /><br />

The red lever is the manual primer. If the solenoid fails, you can prime the engine (cold starts) with the red lever. Flip it counter clockwise till it stops. Once the engine is running or it spits at start up, flip it back so the lever points to the bottom of the solenoid. This is the normal position.<br /><br />Rough setting on the low speed needle is 1 1/4 turn out from GENTLY seated. After engine is warm, adjust needle for best idle IN GEAR.
