Re: What is this and how do I get it out???
Hey everybody,
I just got a new boat and want to take up the deck to inspect however the deck is fastened down with something that I am not sure what it is. I've taken some pictures so hopefully somebody can help me out. I think they might be some kind of rivet. I dont want to tear the deck up, just take it up, inspect, and put it back, if possible.
Thanks!
It is a rivet. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not there for a reason.
Before you "chuck up" your drill-THINK!
you can't just "take up" a deck......it doesnt work that way.
Ayuh,.... It Don't work that way....
In order to disassebmle the deck enough to do a thorough Inspection,...
You'll be Replacing At Least the Carpet,....
Maybe More...
And,...
No disrespect intended, But,....
If you can't identify a Pop-Rivet,...
You're Probably in over your head....
......
agreed
Not wanting to start a flame war here, but that seems a bit harsh toward someone who's just getting started out and came here asking for advise. I'll bet not a single one of us were born the mechanical geniuses we are today, we all had to learn as we went (and some of us are still learning).
this is a case where you need to understand what, .........ayuh...means in each different situation.......i didnt read it as harsh at all....but rather to save the op from hurting his boat.
this is why the forum exists......but as dj and bond-o pointed out.....it is better to learn first by reading here than to "jump in" and drill or saw thru your hull....
That rivet looks way out place, carpet riveted down lol how pethetic. Unless theres a bunch more in somewhat a symetrical pattern that were not seeing but it just looks like a rougue leftover that got trampled down into the carpet.
70.....i really dont think its "stock"....ive never seen a mfgr do that.....its a deck replacment for sure. its also done by someone that "did what he could think of" to get the job done.
ok well I?ve never used the livewell for anything other than a storage box anyways so I?m really not too worried about that. As long as you think everything else will be ok with the ice.
What about the bilge pump?
.
if i understand you correct......the internal watersystems are iced up.....that is not good......they can and will crack/split....
to properly winterize the boat....any water holding systems like this....(ie ...head...shower galley...ice well....beer cooler) must be drained or filled with antifreeze.
however....it doesnt matter what is wrong or right with your boat my friend.....there is enough talent on this forum that has been there done that to get you fixed up in no time
if you want to find out about your deck.......read the restoration forum here at i boats........then read some of the compleated projects forums.....dj did a great job on a aluminium boat....also lundwanissas tinny.
then search core sample.......
after you spend the 2 hrs to do read all of this im confident you will know and understand how easy it is and what to look for with your boat.
cheers
