what is this hose on my 1150?

1976 merc 115hp 6 cyl. <br />at the top of powerhead, just under flywheel is a vey small hose, about 1/8" that connects to a threaded connector and if i follow it down, it gows to the bottom of the powerhead and does same thing again?<br /><br />it was cracked, and during cranking, i would see sumthin' shoot out....is this some kinda fuel/oil hose to lube the top cylinder or sumtin? im new<br /><br />th8nx

Mike,<br /><br />That's the bleed system for the top and bottom crank bearing. It moves pooled oil from the bottom bearing and, using the pessure/vac of the crankcase in the top and bottom cylinders, up to the top bearing. There is a one way valve at one end of the tube. Can't remember if it's at the top or bottom. <br /><br />Good idea to replace the tube if it's cracked, lest you end up with a seized top bearing. :mad: <br /><br />Chris.............

Found a nice picture. Are you refering to parts 20,21,22? And I checked, there's a check valve at each end. <br /><br />
