What is this part? (Pic)

This was taken off of a boat with a mercruiser (but I don't think it is part of the engine that is why I am posting it here).

I thought it was a regulator for an alternator but they are usually small and attached to the alternator and thought maybe it wasn't that. Then I thought maybe it was an isolator but after looking at wire diagrams I think maybe it isn't that.

This thing has three terminal posts, one has a wire going to the alternator (+), one post has a wire coming from the starter (the one that would usually go straight to the alternator), and one that grounds to the engine (this ground wire is why I thought it wasn't a isolator as all the diagrams I've found show no ground wires).

Any ideas?

Not familiar with that motor but that looks like a voltage regulator

it is a battery isolater. and it looks to be in pretty sorry shape. I would have it tested

Starter solinoid switch or whatever its called. I've been through several. $20 part. That one should be in a landfill.
