It keeps the boat from moving forward if you stop fast.

strange trailer set up.....should have a solid bow stop, with a cushion (rubber or polyurethane)......move the spare and remove that thing, fabricate up a nice support stop and youre in......

Re: what is this part??

It prevents this from happening - especially if stern tie downs are not used.

Stern tie downs are required by law in most every state. Better check your regs to see if you're legal or not.

Not too uncommon with an inboard. I rarely ever see transom straps on comp ski boats. That trailer looks like one we had an old jetboat on.

What's special about an inboard? Physics is not partial to what a blob of material looks like. It is a weight that is in motion. An object in motion tends to stay in motion and that applies to any axis - not just fore/aft. Lots of folks overload their trailers, they use a clothesline rope on their winch, no safety chain and no stern tie downs and get away with it. That doesn't make it safe. It makes them "lucky"

Not saying it is right, just that it is pretty normal to see no straps on an inboard. My father inlaw has never used them on his Malibu, not even sure that there is a place on the trailer to hook them up.

It is time for some close up pictures so we can see some details. Top and Bottom! :D

What is the real issue that is giving all the problems?

Re: what is this part??

when loading the boat off the lake i can get it on the trailer but not far enough up to get the bar set on the bow mount.
i basically have the whole dang trailer under water. i use the winch to pull it up as far as i can but as soon as i release the winch to put the bar on the boat slides back.

You're trying to detach the winch cable and put the bar on with the boat still in the water?

While I have never seen this arraingement... Is there any reason you could not put the bar on after you pull the boat and trailer out of the water?
Could this be done in the parking lot?
