What is 'Tip and Roll?'

What in the heck is 'tip and roll?' I read posts where somebody mentions that their home-applied tip and roll paint job came out smooth as silk, but I can't find an explanation of exactly what this method is. I understand that the use of a roller and a brush are involved, but how is this done?

Are there any links to a "how-to" tutorial for doing tip and roll?

Would this be an acceptable method to use on my old fiberglass runabout?

What brand of paint is best for a smooth tip and roll finish? Seems like I've heard of a marine paint that self-levels after it is applied. Sounds like my kind of paint!

Thanks in advance for your help.

The term is Roll/Tip, as in, roll the paint on, and tip the surface off with a fine bristle brush. The link below takes you to a popular marine paint. They have full explanations and instructions (including video) on how to apply the paint. I have used it and I like it very much. iboats also sells it.

Well, the paint is rolled on and the next step is to blend it in with the tip of the brush, being quick about it before things get tacky. That's roll and tip.

Tip and roll is when someone is climbing over the windshield with the anchor and the other guy in the stern near the rotted transom gets up for a refill and the boat tips... then the guy with the anchor rolls off into the drink.
