Re: What is your Port-of-Call?

Evening folks.....

My usual Port of Call is Rayland Marina. Nice cove to launch in, out of the rivers current. Well kept area by the owners. Lots of good memories there.

This past weekend, I darn near called my back yard "Port of Call". 3+ inches of rain and no place to go the ground was so saturated.

But that's life along the Mighty Ohio.

Fly Rod,

I have a mooring on the other side of the bridge. Lund was the dingy for my Chris Craft, but now that that's gone I'm going to be looking for something in the 24-28 foot range, after I sell the Lund. Used to have slip up the Parker River, then the Boat Works on the Merrimack. Hauled the Constellation at Cape Ann before. Favorite summer spot-Wingarsheek Beach. Small world....... :p

Theres many here of course, but my favorite is Everglades City or Chokoluske. To shallow and wild for the city yahoos. Perfect for a small craft. But the locals have no problem with a 50' Viking going for Stone Crab  .

Castaway, Yeah seven bridges is in the general area. If you take Great Bay Blvd it will take you out to the old CG station which is now owned by Rutgers as a research station. There is definitely good fishing there about 20ft from the bank the water is 40 feet deep.

Where did you get the pics from. Right up the lagoon at my parents house is one of the guide wire footings and to get to my aunts house you have to go around one of the tower footings. From that footing to the next closest is about 500 yards. I've seen the news paper clippings on it but I would have really like to seen it for real. It must have been an impressive structure.

Well, I grew up on Puget Sound--in a little place on Whidbey Island, Wa called "Useless Bay" but now I'd have to say it is Sault Ste Marie, Michigan, on the Saint Mary's River that connects Lake Superior with Lake Huron, and sometimes Blind River, Ontario Canada--in the North Channel of Lake Huron.

My port of call is the Neshaminy creek off the Delaware river, (about 20 miles north of Philly). Been to tukerton area, I sometimes keep the boat at All Seasons Marina when in Ocean City. We get some decent shipping traffic on this river, the 55 ft deep channel goes all the way up to Trenton NJ.

Boy James, Did you bring back some memories. My Pop would always put into Neshaminy Creek. Long before I was ever around. Boy we will be spending the next few hours talking about old times.

He used to live in Cornwells Hgts off of Street road.

Port of call? For us landlocked folks, we don't hear that much.

Anyway, I would have to say I generally set sail at Patoka Lake, (8880 acres,......don't laugh).

Lake was named after a local tribe of Indians called......... you guessed it, the Patoka Indians.

Second largest Lake in the state, so that ought to tell ya that Indiana is mostly dry. :D

Hey Carpy,

How's it going?

Haven't heard from you in a while.

Anyway, that lake you talk about, Potaka Lake, you say that its 8880 acres, so how many miles across is that?

And, can you basiccally cover that lake in under an hour, or does it take all day to explore?

I don't think I would be a boater if I was limited to just a lake.

Give me a Bay, or Ocean anyday!

Nothing like the great wide open!

Re: What is your Port-of-Call?

Whats happenin Kenny.

Hey, I said don't laugh. :D Patoka lake is small by most standards, but actually the second largest in the state. The lake is shaped like an Octopus, with many fingers going in all different directions. Its a great lake for Bass, Bluegill, Crappie, Catfish, Stripers, and a few other assorted fish. It would take a while to fish this lake because of the many miles of shoreline.

It is a nice peaceful lake for the most part.

I have only fished in that salty water maybe three times. That was in the Gulf, off of St. Petersburg Florida. I remember goin out on a boat named the Daytona Cat. I think we caught Red Snapper, or something like that. It was a blast. If I lived near the "Big Water", i'm sure I would be fishing there all the time.
(I'm afraid my 16.5' Dynatrak, and my 115 Johnson might be a little undersized for that salty water).

One of the disadvantages to living in Indiana is the lack of good fishing areas, but the Huntin is great! ;)

.......and boy do we like Basketball!!!!!

Re: What is your Port-of-Call?

Here in Squaw Valley we are two hours from any ocean port, but our nearest body of water is Pine Flat Reservoir.http://www.totalescape.com/destin/lakes/pineflat.html
We boat and fish there most of the year.
If I was to call a port a home it would be the one I grew up near. Port Hueneme, CA.
http://www.portofhueneme.org/index.html
I caught my biggest fish 3 miles out of this harbor on a charter. A big 33 lb. salmon. The salmon usually don't run that far south, but El Nino brought them that far about 6 years ago. What fun that was! :D
