Hey all,

Cleaning out my grandfathers garage, and I found these two gas tanks up in the attic...

I looked inside, and they were spotless, So I was going to use them as spares... I took a quick glance and I thought they were Evinrude/Johnson fittings, so grabbed em and brought em home...

But today when I want to test them out, I noticed I couldnt hook up my hose... They have an extra "prong" sticking out, as well as two little pins near the top (see 2nd picture)... so my fitting wont work... they look like OMC but now I dont know...

The fittings are built into the plate in the top, so I cant change them out... now just wanna know what they may be for??? He did used to have a 1955 35horse Johnson, they might have gone to it..???

Just wondering if they would be worth anything once I can Identify them.

Any help appreciated.

Those are old evin\johnson tanks...not sure why they have large fitting on them. The two pins are to move check valves... one lets air in the lets fuel out.
A standard evin\johnson fitting should work.

standard OMC fuel tanks. that came with the engines, if not rusty in side, still usable.

yep omc/evin/john,,,i have one just like it,only mine has just the two prongs coming out ,its very very clean inside and out/gauge works,,,my cap wasnt vented though and my engine would pull a vac on it,make my fuel pump work overtime and get my engine leaning and spitting,,,,got a vented one and all that went away

Re: What kind of Gas Tanks are these?

Pushing one of the pins in vents the tank. No need for a vented cap. The other pin is a fuel shut-off valve. Keeps gas from spewing out when the hose is unplugged.

If it leaks gas around the pin when the hose is connected, there is an o-ring in the housing (around the pin) that needs to be replaced. It will also suck air if that o-ring is bad.

The one tank with the round fuel guage window is the older of the 2. That older style fuel guage was used from the start of the single line style in 1958 (J/E) through about 1964. I don't know, but Gale may have used it back to about 1956 approximately.
