I got three of the boats pulled out of the woods at my grandpa's place to take to the dump but cant get them up on the car trailer very easily (doh!).

at this point, the easiest way would be to cut them into pieces right there on the ground and then load the pieces (would also make it easy to get off the trailer at the dump lol).

I've got two options I can think of right now.

1. electric sawzall run off a portable generator with those big demolition blades.
2. cheap poulan gas chainsaw with a couple extra chains

which do you guys think would be best? I like the sawzall as it would be cheaper to run but if I hit something and bend the blade constantly...

chainsaw would probably eat the boat alive but the boats are sitting on a rock road and I can imagine how the road surface would eat up the chains in a quick minute.

I'd love to just set the boats on fire but I'm pretty sure the EPA would be on my *** in a second haha. that and half of them have water/goo in the bilges.

Second on the dust mask. I'd think either chainsaw or reciprocating saw would work equally as well. Though I would think the fiberglass would hammer the chainsaw blade. Reciprocating saw blades are much cheaper. Make sure batteries are removed and fuel is drained along with the fuel lines before you start cutting.

these things are just empty hulls filled with water/leaves/ants/snakes. havent had running gear on them in a LONG time lol.

what type blades do you guys think I should use? just the biggest baddest demolition blades I can find or do you know of any specific ones at home depot or lowes that would make quick work of this?

I wonder if I should take video/pics of this? lol.

Use a standard skillsaw with carbide tipped blades. You may need a chainsaw for some pieces of the boat, but usually, if they are small boats, you will be able to just run the skillsaw around the hull.

A skillsaw will make the job real fast, in comparison to a Sawzall or chainsaw. 7 1/2" Carbide tipped blades are pretty cheap. You may need two.

you mean a circular saw? I have a 5-1/2" one and I'm sure harbor freight has the carbide tipped blades. just put it on the deepest setting and let it rip through whatever it encounters I guess? assume the blade is bad when all the carbide is gone off the surface?

Oh Thank you. I was going to post a reply and decided not to. but now I simply couldn't resist. Circular Saw, Jig Saw, Reciprocating Saw, Chainsaw. Skil is a brand. Referring to a type of saw by the popular brand name is silly. To my knowledge so was Sawzall at one time, then they were bought by Milwaukee if I remember correctly.

Are these wooden or fiberglass boat? if wood I would get in safe location and burn. If glass cut with 12 inch sawzall blades. Last time I burned a boat was years ago but took our time and then cleaned up the metal.

4 of them are fiberglass. one is aluminum that my grandpa wants to recycle but man, that one has all kinds of creepy crawlies/stagnant water in it and the recycler wont take it unless all the interior crap is cut out.

recipro saw with a good blade maybe dewalt using a metal blade and if there is any wood then use the wood blade for that. you should only need 2-3 cuts depending on the size 1 down the center and 2 cross cuts, should only take 20 monutes each boat.

One more idea to add to the confusion, a 6" grinder with a diamond blade will go through fiberglass like a hot knife through butter.

yeah, imagine a couple boats from the 60's/70's left in the woods since the 80's. it took two tractors to pull the one little cimmeron out of its grave as it was sinking into the ground.

Shrew, You are correct Skill is a brand name, very much like Kleenex. Sorry to confuse everyone.

yes, I meant 7 1/2" circular saw. It will be much more efficient(faster) that any kind of Sawzall, oops I meant recriprocating saw.

Re: what method would you use to cut up a boat?

Know a fella with a boat yard filled with old never to be used again boats, mostly wood.

One of the hands at the yard lives on site in a trailer and he tries to burn a boat in his pot belly stove each winter for heat.

Got rid a few since I've known him but there?s plenty of burning left.

After breathing in whatever?s on that wood, who knows how long he'll be around to keep the fire going?
