I just bought a 1968 traveler. I'm tring to find out some specs on it to get parts for. I need a windshield. I herd a bowrider one might fit. If anyone can tell me more about this boat, that would be great!! I'm putting dark blue carpet in it.

Thanks!

The plate on the inside says max HP 40. does that mean that the weight would be too much if I stuck an 80 hp on there or does that mean I would have to re-enforce the back where it mounts?

I'm just wondering if 40 hp is going to be enough to pull a tube? It's a light boat, but is 40 enough?

Pj , if youur boat is "rated" at 40 hp , it means that is the max power safe for that hull. It shouldn't be surpassed . Up gradeing to an "80's style motor of 40 hp will give you larger dia prop with many options- ss /composite , 3 blade/4 blade ,etc . Going over rating will get you hassles from the E.P./USCG - You don't need fines! and the insurance people frown on it too, not that they won't charge you dearly if you insist......

Does anyone know if 40hp is enough to pull a tube or ski behind in a small light boat like this one?

it looks like the boat has a nice 40 hp on it. there are many problems to over powering. water police can red tag you, send you home, and boat cannot go back in the water, till inspected, to meet regulations. if you have an incident, injury, or property damage. get ready to sign everything you own over to the injured person. lawyers love over powered boats.

Where are you located pj? I would reconsider the blue carpet as it will be hot on the feet. Go with a light grey or a very light blue, but anything dark will be hot. Also, forget the model info stuff. You are going to have to find a windshield by yourself or have a plastic type one made. Are you sure you want a full windshield? I'd leave it as is if weather wasn't a concern, and with that low of freeboard weather isn't . . .

Tubes don't require much horsepower, so a single tube with a single rider should be no problem.

Welcome aboard btw . . . :)

milwaukee, WI

we'll see about the heat (I own sandles ;) ). I'm about 80% done carpeting the inside. I'm going to make a realy low profile tinted windshield for it (only about 6" high).

What did you mean about the "freeboard"?

"will it pull a tube?" that was the girlfriends only concern! And from what you guys are telling me, it should. Thanks! I just replaced the impeller (which wasn't that worn to begin with) and ran it for a while in a huge container of water. It seamed to run very smoothly. It didn't like idling very much (RPM's went way down then conked out). It probly needs a little tuning. It looks like all the electronics were replaced including the coil and the ford style relay. It starts right up!

Thanks for the welcome (to the forum and to boating)!!!

Also, is this considered a deep-V or a shallow-V? It seams pretty low to me compaired to my folks mid 80's 19' glasstron.

Freeboard:
The distance between the water line and the uppermost full deck.
