so the boat is a 1980 sea ray 192 bow rider 470 mercruiser. I plan on doing a full restoration but it is machanicaly sound and i did core samples in some key places and found no rot so im enjoying it as is for the rest of the summer. any ways i was crusin on the sac river (im for northern calf) and i found a sand bar in the middle of the river and well im in need of a lower unit now. I cant see the serial # i search but i cant really find a definate awnser so if you know for sure what it is or what will work or a good source for one around my area i would really appreciate it thanks this is my first boat and ive included some pics of it.

A side pic would be great.
Since your cavitation plate is round at the corners Im going to guess pre-alpha outdrive.

You def need a prop. As for the skeg, many have run for a long time without it. It's there to protect the prop, but as you found out, only in very specific situations. If the shaft ain't bent, I'd buy a prop and maybe a skeggard and run it..

Wow! I haven't seen a prop like that since that rock bed I ran into two years ago:redface:.

Are the gears damaged, or did you just break the skeg off? If its just a busted skeg, you may be able to have it repaired by someone who can weld aluminum. Drive looks like an R or MR drive, I don't know them quite well enough to distinguish.

yay the prop shaft is bent a little bit but i could straiten it or buy a new one so the fin on the bottom there is just to protect the prop it dosent aid in stability or turning so i could just shave it down a bit and round all the edges back off and call it good because im done with the river oh and that sand bar had plenty of rocks in it but i wanted a different prop anyway so no big deal.

oh and for the above poster they have some type of shear key right im hoping thats what happend but i havent pulled it apart yet so i dont know.

If it shifts ok, you probably dodged a bullet for now. The bent shaft is an issue. If you don't get that fixed, you risk bearings/seals/internals etc. The sterndrive engineering lower may work if the repair gets too expensive. They have them here at Iboats I believe. Contact them for fitment.

It's a Mercruiser "One Drive", the R didn't come out till 83.

I thought type I, too, for the lower but I would expect the upper to be an MR but after 30 years, who knows what's there.

Actually MC1's and R's parts/uppers and lowers, are fairly interchangable except for the cosmetics. An MR is completely different and closer to a Gen 2.

Merc didn't use different uppers and lowers. In the end, they were interchangable, but they didn't come out with a 1 lower and R upper.
It was all R, then all MR, etc.
