Re: What prop to buy?

There is usually a number stamped in the prop that is either the model number or the pitch and diameter.

For reference, the prop on my 1985 85 hp Force is a 19 pitch. The boat is a 1985 Bayliner cuddy cabin, 16 feet in length. This was a pretty common setup by Bayliner at that time. There are only a few prop manufacturers making Force props, so you will have to shop around. I think Michigan Wheel still makes them, check the iboats propeller section.

Check out http://www.miwheel.com They still make props for Force outboards (I buy mine there) and they have an application guide. A little pricey but as Mark42 said, Force props are getting hard to come by.

How bad is your prop? Sometimes its cheaper to repair than replace. Ask at the local marina where a prop can be repaired, or just mail it out to a service.

This may be more difficult than I thought. I did not realize that it had to be prop from manufacturer. I thought just needed to know right size.

Normally, you are right. Knowing the pitch, and you can shop for price and style (hup system or one-piece) from many different manufacturers. The problem with the Force prop is most manufacturers have stopped making props for them.

Search ebay, and do a search online for the number you find on the prop. The 19 pitch prop had a number PS-625 stamped in the side. Another prop I have just had C19 stamped in the side. Depends on who made the prop.

It is pretty bad, one blade is more of square at bottom instead of round, other blade has section about size of half dollar out. I am worried that if I do not get another one it will be hard on the motor. What is pitch for? How do i know what pitch to pick?

Okay I have 2 questions, first is how do i know which pitch. Also I went on this site and they have props for my motor but it asks if my motor dual exhaust and I do not know what this means or how to find out. Again, I have a 1989 85HP US Marine Force Outboard. Is bad prop hard on motor?

Re: What prop to buy?

You can use either prop on your motor.Take yours off and look. There is a # stamped on the side of your prop or on the end.
It should be a 17 or 19p
If it has any other #s like ps 625 that means it's an aftermarket by Michigan Propeller.#s like c19 mean it's a cupped 19pitch.
Any Mercury dealer will have what you need to buy.
Save your old prop and get it rebuilt.Any boat place will send it out for you and have it rebuilt.
YES a prop with big chunks missing can ruin your lower unit.
Always post pics.Fill out your profile.Send me a PM if you need any help,I don't usually answer prop question and won't check this section.J

Re: What prop to buy?

I looked on the prop and could not find numbers anywhere. The only place i saw numbers on the part where the prop is screwd in. The numbers were 523282 and when i looked it up it this number matched a washer for the prop. So now I have no idea where to look. My manual says prop is spline drive-right hand rotation and that is it, it does not have a recommended pitch. Is something i could measure on the prop to tell what the pitch is? I would lilke to get exact same size to avoid any problems.
