Hi all!
I'm going to install a water pressure gauge on my 1989 125HP Force and I wanted to know a good water pressure (PSI) range for the gauge to read in? Any help would be great!

Thanks!

Re: What PSI range for a water Press. gauge for my Force??

Hi Red,

I have an 1986 Force 125 and I installed a 0-30 psi gauge on it... it seems to work well. It reads about 2 to 3 psi at idle, roughly 10 psi at 3000 RPM, and close to 15 psi at WOT. My installation connects to the top port of the engine, where many others have put a line in for a pee-hole.

Cheers.

Ok Thanks! Guess i'll get the 0-30psi gauge then. When you say top engine port do you mean the straight slot pipe plug on the top of the head? That is where I planned to install mine.

Thanks for the quick reply!

"straight slot pipe plug....": yep, that's the one. I took out the plug, put a 1/8" NPT-to-1/4" tubing (compression fitting) in it's place, and then ran 1/4" plastic tubing up to the dashboard where I've installed the pressure gauge. 20-minute job, most of which was trying to keep the run of the tubing up the side of the boat half-ways tidy.

How did you get the plug out? Mine is stuck quite good. I have been trying with an impact wrench but cant get it to budge.

How did you get the plug out?

Mine came out relatively easy. Tapped it a few times with a 10-oz. ball peen hammer, then used a big ol' flat-bladed screwdriver with a 10" wrench for leverage. My plug was made of stainless steel, and of course the engine block is aluminum, so if your's is the same it would not be surprising that the two metals have corroded together.

I'm no expert, so take the following advice for what it's worth, but if your plug is really stuck, I would go with some judicious application of heat to the general area. Assuming you would use a propane torch like I would, don't apply enough heat to burn the paint, but it should be hot enough to feel fairly uncomfortable to the bare hand. Then, hold an ice-cube onto the top of the plug (but not the surrounding area). Give it a 10-count and then try to undo the plug. The theory being that since stainless steel has a lower coefficient of expansion than aluminum, the iced plug should not expand as fast as the aluminum and therefore the threads will loosen up and you might be able to break the corrosion free. Or something like that.
