What sealant to use when re-installing cap?

I am about ready to reinstall the cap for the last time, as my transom, stringer, deck rebuild is nearing the end. What is the recommended sealant to use in the hull to cap joint. Originally there was a rubbery material there.

I would want something that, if needed would allow me to remove the cap again.

What should I be looking at boat life, 4200, something else????

The 3M 4000 is fine.. I've used another marine grade sealant for that several times, but you're not allowed to say it on here.

Well at the risk of starting something....
I would highly recommend this stuff
http://www.dhcsupplies.com/aaadhesives/adhcaulkproseal34.htm

I used it when I was in the construction business. It is EXTREMELY durable, remains elastic, 100% waterproof, UV Resistant etc...
I think it would be an excellent choice for reassembling top caps to hulls.

Yes ... um..that link was a retailer..

"Please Note: This product is past its two year shelf life. That being said we have had ABSOLUTELY no issues with the performance of the product. If you are in any way dissatisfied we will take it back and issue full credit for both the product and shipping charges. Please call 800-323-2999 if you have any questions or concerns."

For Hull deck joints I dont think you need UV protection :) ..

Hull decks are more like " how do I seal it and what happens if I need to get it off again " type thingy..

YD.

PS. not to say that this pro seal isnt good..just have never used it before :) .

Why not ???

Silicone isn't approve by many here.....but what the heck. For that joint I use marine grade silcone....you said the original was rubbery....bet it was silicone too. Just another option.

And your probably right about silicone in the hull/deck joint..

Will silly cone work for this application..it all depends on the joint itself..

Yes Most will be fine with marine silicone ..

Yes dont use 42/5200 on a hull deck joint .

Application is from boat to boat though ... sometimes you cant use caulk...you have to use Glass..

But for normal hull/decks marine Silicone will be fine if its prepped right..

I still like the 4000 myself :) ..

Just didn't want to start a fuss with sealant here....LOL. You know I've actually restored several boats that had NOTHING in the cap to hull joint.

Keep in mind that this is a seal only, nothing structual about it, the screws, rivets, nuts/bolts or whatever was used is what gives the structual support of the two halves. I've used the 3M 4000 as well, either is fine...
